What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy (OT) focuses on improving your child's ability to function in everyday activities.  These activities may include playing, eating, dressing, hygiene and learning.   OT utilizes the child's strengths to enhance areas such as fine motor skills including buttoning, holding a fork, coloring, and combing hair. OT also addresses how a child processes sensations, (sensory integration) develops gross motor coordination, and social and emotional skills.  Focus is placed on assisting the child to obtain optimal success within his/her environment and function more fully.
