Overview
Pediatric occupational therapists teach children to perform daily living skills. Treatment is provided for children and young adults with a variety of diagnoses including cerebral palsy, learning disorders, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, brain injury and developmental delay.

Evaluation and Treatment
During the evaluation session, the therapist determines the areas which compromise functional independence.

 

Comprehensive Assessment:

  • Neuromuscular status
  • Gross motor skills
  • Coordination and balance
  • Fine motor skills
  • Handwriting performance
  • Sensory processing and integration
  • Activities of daily living
  • Auditory processing skills
  • Oral motor skills - feeding
  • Visual perceptual motor skills
  • All standardized evaluation instrument

Family members are consulted during the evaluation process, and goals are established based on a mutual understanding of the patient's needs.

A variety of treatment approaches are utilized to achieve the therapy goals. Dressing, grooming, eating, playing, moving and interacting with others are purposeful activities for children which may be addressed in treatment. In addition, sensorimotor, visual perceptual, cognitive and psychosocial skill areas are addressed.

A home program and/or weekly recommendations will be made in order to increase your child's optimal success throughout the occupational therapy program.  These will be integrated into your daily schedule to assist you and your child reach increased functioning.
